Silicosis

Concerned About the Stone in Your Home?

If you have an artificial stone surface installed in your home please do not worry. Stone benchtops don’t have to come with a fear of Silicosis. The low-silica stone surfaces that we work with comply with the strictest local and international safety standards and are completely safe for domestic use.

These products are perfectly safe in their manufactured state and when transported, shipped and installed. If you have any concerns or questions, we are always here to answer them as best we can. Simply Contact Us.

Feel Safe with AGB.

We take safety very seriously. Always improving our health and safety systems in response to new information that comes to light, we have built upon our current practices to ensure even greater protection for our stonemason team against exposure to silica dust.

This has included increased ways in which water is used during the production of low-silica stone products, almost eliminating the dust that is created in the manufacturing process, and registering our factory environments significantly under acceptable Worksafe NZ dust exposure standards. This has been validated with extensive independent air-testing.

Through open and honest conversations amongst our suppliers, our competitors, Worksafe NZ and our team we have been able to further develop our H&S culture of best practice, which means our staff can feel safe working with us.

We at AGB have a strong desire to encourage and help develop a Code of Practice for our whole industry, with regulations that explicitly prohibit uncontrolled dry cutting of low-silica stone. We welcome these initiatives.

We do feel for those who have suffered needlessly through this terrible and preventable ailment, and urge you all to be always mindful when choosing your Stone Fabricator that they too are putting the safety of their staff at the forefront.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF YOUR STONE

• For all stone surfaces, be it man made or natural, we recommend always starting your cleaning regime with a clean, wet cloth and mild liquid dish detergent.

• Gently buff dry with a clean, soft micro-fibre cloth. Avoid using harsh or abrasive scourers or cleaning products.
